Masyarakat berharap pemerintah mengubah statusnya menjadi hak milik.
(ZYN/ADV/DISKOMINFO)

The East Kalimantan Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Office has ensured that the investigation into the landslide incident in Batuah Village, Loa Janan District, Kutai Kartanegara, will be conducted transparently and independently.
A mining inspector from the Ministry of ESDM is planned to visit the site to carry out technical inspections to uncover the cause of the landslide, which damaged the main road access in the Kilometer 28 section of the Samarinda–Balikpapan route.
“We will fully oversee this investigation process. The results will be openly shared with the public,” said Bambang Arwanto, Head of the East Kalimantan ESDM Office, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
He added that if any negligence is found on the part of the mining company, legal and administrative actions will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations.
This move by ESDM responds to concerns raised by local residents who have long suspected a connection between mining activities and the landslide disaster that occurred in early June. The investigation will involve a technical team from the center to ensure the results are credible and do not cause doubt among the public.
Support for the ESDM’s actions also came from the East Kalimantan Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD). Deputy Chairman of Commission III, Akhmed Reza Fachlevi, stated that his team had conducted a direct review of the disaster site to listen to the community’s concerns and assess the impact.
“The residents are seeking clarity and justice. They are dissatisfied with the preliminary assessment that has been made. Therefore, we are pushing for a thorough and objective technical investigation,” said Reza.
In a meeting with the DPRD at the site, the residents voiced several demands. In addition to requesting compensation for the impacts of the landslide, they also sought clarity on the status of relocation housing, which has so far been on a temporary-use basis.
The community hopes the government will change the status to ownership. Furthermore, they are demanding an official explanation regarding the cause of the landslide.
In response to the issue, PT Baramulti Suksessarana (BSSR), which is said to be near the landslide site, stated that there was no connection between its mining activities and the incident.
BSSR’s Chief of Mining, Donny Nababan, explained that the mining disposal area, which residents had accused of causing the landslide, has not been used since 2024 and has already been reclaimed.
“The landslide occurred at an elevation of 147 meters above sea level, while our disposal site is at 134 meters above sea level. Technically, it is impossible for water to flow from below to above,” explained Donny.
He also confirmed that the water at the site was a result of heavy rainfall, not runoff from mining activities.
Nevertheless, the company expressed its willingness to cooperate with the local government and community in finding solutions to the impacts caused, including through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. (ADV/RED5-Z13/h)
