Dokter Spesialis Paru RSUD AWS, dr.

(ZYN/ADV/DISKOMINFO)

The Abdul Wahab Sjahranie General Hospital (RSUD AWS) in Samarinda has discharged one of the two Covid-19 patients currently being treated. The patient was reported to be in stable condition, and the antigen test results were negative.

Dr. Yanti Evi Gultom, a pulmonary specialist at RSUD AWS, confirmed that the two Covid-19 patients being treated showed improvement in their condition. One patient, who had comorbidities, is now stable, and their respiratory complaints have disappeared, allowing them to be discharged today.

“Currently, one patient is still under treatment because they require further care until their condition improves,” said Dr. Yanti on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Dr. Yanti explained that the current circulating Covid-19 variant is a subvariant of Omicron, with common symptoms including fever, cough, cold, sore throat, and nausea.

She also urged the public to continue following health protocols if experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as wearing masks, maintaining cleanliness, and regularly washing hands.

Previously, two East Kalimantan residents tested positive for Covid-19 based on antigen test results and are being treated in the isolation room at RSUD AWS.

Their samples have been sent to the Banjarbaru Health Laboratory for PCR testing to confirm whether they belong to a new Covid-19 variant.

“We have sent the samples for PCR testing, and this new variant is expected not to cause severe symptoms or death,” explained Acting Director of RSUD AWS, Dr. Indah Puspitasari MARS.

Although both patients had no travel history to other cities or abroad, the positive antigen results are suspected to be related to underlying conditions such as diabetes mellitus and lung disorders.

The East Kalimantan Provincial Health Office explained that, in addition to Covid-19, the patients also suffer from other conditions such as pneumonia and diabetes. Health screening was conducted on three patients, two of whom tested positive for Covid-19, but PCR results are still pending.

“These patients are from the local area, and we are still investigating the source of transmission,” said the Head of the East Kalimantan Health Office, Dr. Jaya Mualimin.

He also assured the public not to panic, as the new variant circulating has a low transmission and death rate.

“The trend of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia continues to decline, with the MB.1.1 variant not causing deaths,” concluded Dr. Jaya, while urging the public to remain calm and vigilant. (ADV/RED3/d)
